A Moving Moment in Rochester
My husband and I are in the joyful process of relocating to Rochester, NY. We knew we wanted a new place to live for several years now. We poked around areas in Connecticut, but nothing felt quite right.
Last fall, my husband took a new position within the company he works for. His projects would now be located in Rochester but the company was fine with him working out of the Connecticut office. He would be required to travel up to Rochester once a month for meetings...and I got to go with him and stay at the nicest boutique hotel up there (The Inn on Broadway). Cannot say enough about this hotel...but I digress.
After our second trip to Rochester, we were both loving the area. It's a city with a small town feel. Traffic is almost non existent (at least in the winter), and the photography opportunities are endless. I could go on and on but I'm sure you'll be seeing plenty of Magic Monday photos in the coming months and years as I explore western New York, Buffalo, Niagara, Cleveland, Toronto and more. So many new places within a few hours driving distance.
Get to the point, Megan. :)
SO, my Magic Musing story is about apartment hunting last week. I was having a very "guided" day as I visited 4 different apartment buildings in downtown Rochester. By guided, I mean that visceral feeling I get that something was gently leading me from place to place with perfect timing. I went to every building unannounced. At the Spectra complex, I was buzzed in and met Rachel at the leasing office. She said she had a noon cancellation and could give me a full tour of the building right now because, of course, it was noon on the dot! I wasn't even planning on seeing this building on this day, but I was having trouble finding the Temple Building. I toured Spectra instead and then grabbed something for lunch.
After lunch, I set out once again for the Temple Building. Found it (literally across the street from Spectra). I headed up to the 8th floor to find the leasing agent. When I got off the elevator, I wasn't sure if the doors for Costanza Enterprises was what I was looking for or not. So I wandered down the hall looking for something more "leasy" looking (whatever that is). I noticed that about every 12 feet there was a black & white photo hung on the hallway walls.
"How nice," I thought, they have an appreciation of photography here. My wandering did not lead me to anything more leasy looking so I traced my steps back to the elevator area, glancing at the photos on the wall as I sauntered.
One photo stopped me in my tracks and I did a double take. What was I looking at??
For a moment, I thought it was ME in the photo. Now she is not my doppleganger twin, but she looks very very similar to me. The gloves are like mine, the black purse is like mine, shape of her face (eyes are different), the style of her hair, length of her coat.
I was stunned. And it seemed to be a bit of a premonition because we are indeed renting an apartment in this building! The room she is standing in looks like the 2nd bedroom in our future apartment.
With all the magic moments the Universe delivers to me now, I absolutely know this was another wink for me. And I loved it because it involved photography. We found the perfect loft style apartment we've dreamed about for years with a fun story to go along with the search.
Until the next wink from the Universe...
xo,
Megan
