Korea Town
The Flower District
Train In/Out: Fairfield, CT

Today was a more unique adventure. Years ago, the movie series Twilight was quite popular. My daughter was in middle school at the time so I ended up reading the book (and loved it, far more than she did). Then the movies came out and I was all over that. I was Team Edward and everyone knew it. :) At a Christmas party with my high school girlfriends, I received an Edward "Barbie doll" during our gift exchange. It was love at first site, ha ha. I created a short series of photos back then, taking Edward to a few places and posting the pics on Facebook. I called it Edward's Escapades. Recently, a few friends mentioned that they would love to see Edward on one of my New York trips. So off I went today, walking through the city holding my Edward doll for much of the day. I'm wondering if I'm in someone else's street photography as the weird girl with the doll. The irony.
Onward.
Handsome, isn't he?
I had a number of new additions to the Interesting Things page today. If you are new to 52 Magic Mondays, I keep a page of images of interesting things people have with them in the city.
Two in a row!
Edward wanted to see Tripp's mural art that I saw being created on Week 20.
Of course we had to see the library. Since Edward is a vampire and will live forever, he has lots of time for reading.
I was waiting patiently to take Edward's picture with the lion. These people were apparently taking a photo to make it look like the lion was licking their popsicle. It was a very messy photo opp. The guy was covered in popsicle juice by the time they were done.
The Smooch.
Took a quick walk through Bryant Park. In the back you can see they have a movie screen setup. They do movies in the park on Monday nights.
I love how the baby is looking up. So sweet.
A big welcome to Interesting Things... for this guy!
Edward doesn't eat (you know, because he's a vampire) but he liked the bite mark on the tie.
Edward thought this was someone he knew.
Edward thinks the entire 2016 Presidential Election is a Grand Illusion. Crazy times.
I didn't think that container with a few pretzels looked that heavy honestly.
We didn't buy it, he doesn't like nicknames.
Since Edward doesn't eat regular food he never worries about his weight. Lucky him.
There are free papers to borrow at the park at Herald Square.
This window NEVER lets me down!! Another Mowhawk Man!!
There was music playing and this guy was dancing up a storm! I got a picture of him holding Edward but it was blurry. :(
The Long Walk to Freedom is on his t-shirt. And then there's the guy behind him!
Destination #1 of the day, Korea Town.
My picture opportunities on the street are terrible because the entire block is full of scaffolding. Anyway, this is the main food market for Korea Town.
I'm actually a very good cook. HOWEVER, I have a weakness and surprisingly it's making decent rice. I've had a rice cooker for years which solved that problem. Now I don't feel so bad.
Chorus karaoke bar. From what I read, karaoke is very popular in Korea.
I Miss Korea, very popular restaurant. Students studying around the tri-state area from Korea drive into the city to eat here.
Wireless psychic readings! ;)
The Korean culture takes a lot of care with their skin. There were a number of stores like this on the block.
Koryo Books is a bookstore that has popular books translated into Korean.
Hmmm...
Another welcome to Interesting Things.
Edward is back. Out of respect for Korea Town he hid in my backpack. I didn't want to offend anyone since I don't know the culture well.
Here Edward got a peek at Madison Square Gardens.
That's one way to prop open a door (that says to keep it closed).
Destination #2 of the day, The Flower District. I quickly renamed it The Tree & Bush District since that's about all I saw.
Edward lives in Forks, Washington where it is cold, wet and rainy so he really likes moss.
Where are these flowers?
Ugh.
OK, found a few in this store that had their door open. I do love orchids.
Edward reminiscing about all those tree climbing scenes he had to do in the Twilight movie.
So the block or so I explored in the so called Flower District was a fail. I was expecting gorgeous displays of flowers, people selling bouquets, etc. I'll try again in the fall, maybe it's too hot outside.
Why hello kitty (and your kitty friend that's behind you). Why are you living in a vacant storefront?
Even though Edward is immortal, he also does not like those grates in the city!
A few months ago this church went up in flames. The photos of the fire were DRAMATIC to say the least.
Borrowed this image from: https://punditfromanotherplanet.com/tag/serbian-orthodox-cathedral-of-st-sava/
Flawless. You go girl.
Eately has a sense of humor about their restroom location!
I'm including this image because a few moments before there was a BANG down in the subway area like I've never heard before. I would NOT have gone down there. It sounded kind of like a gun shot? Nothing else happened. A few people stopped, looked cautiously down the stairs, but then they headed right down. Only in New York.
Everyone get your shoes on, we're going for a walk in Madison Square Park!
I found a Pokemon!
For historical reference since it could be a flash in the pan, about 2 weeks ago, Pokemon Go came out as an app/game for people's phones. That kid is probably playing it. Huge sensation.
Full disclosure, I'm a recovering Facebook Farmville Addict. I still miss my ski chalet and cows.
Love in the city.
It really has been, Edward, hasn't it?
That's one way to ride a bike.
A favorite of the day.
Edward and I took a break by the Flatiron Building. We were waiting for my friend, Agador the dog! We made plans to meet him at the park this afternoon.
Agador was very happy to meet Edward.
Edward, not so much.
Agador has around 12,000 followers on Instagram. Look for "poochofnyc". His owner dresses him up in the most adorable outfits. Agador also does professional modeling. We met in the park on Week 15 when I did some night photography of the Flatiron Building.
I brought my swag hat from my Olympus photography workshop in Philly this weekend so Agador could model it for me. xo
I met Agador's friend, Holly, in the park. So we did a mini-photoshoot for Holly.
Holly is also on Instagram! HappyHollyHavenese
Holly taken with the Olympus 8mm fisheye lens.
Said our goodbyes and I started to make my way back up to Grand Central. I left the fisheye lens on my camera to see what I could get on the street. It's a fun lens, it captures 180 degrees left /right & up / down.
Your Instagram is a liar. What does that even mean?
It was a great day in the city for me and Edward. Let me know if you liked Edward's Escapades using the form below, maybe I'll bring him to NYC again.
I was in Philly last weekend - I created a web page (pictures only) if you want to take a look - some really cool shots at a skate park, Eastern State Penitentiary and an amazing lightening photo!!
Until the next Magic Monday!
xo,
