To quote Elaine from Seinfeld:
This was the hottest Monday I've experienced so far. Perhaps arriving at noon wasn't the best idea. Usually the shade of the buildings keeps me pretty comfortable. But the SoHo area and East Village don't have much in the way of skyscrapers so you don't get sidewalks with full shade most of the time. I only lasted about 3 hours since it was 95 degrees, very humid and I was in the sun much of the time. I managed to get in 6 miles and got a few good images.
Onward.
My day started on a concerning note in SoHo. As I climbed up the subway stairs, this man was sitting on the stairs with his dog. A few people were gathered around him. The dog was very overheated and not doing well. I went to the top of the stairs and watched for a minute. I'm a HUGE animal lover so I felt worried for the little guy. They were trying to give the dog water, one person was calling a vet for advice. I offered my bottle of water but he just had a stranger give him her half bottle of water so he was OK. Another person suggested wetting the dog's tummy, he was trying that. I looked around and noticed a street vendor selling drinks, etc. I knew I had a small sandwich baggie in my purse with a few vitamins. I emptied that out and asked the street vendor if he would fill the baggie with ice. He did (you can see the baggie in the picture). I walked over and gave it to the dog owner. It was all I could think of to help. Hoping this story had a happy ending. xo
Welcome to Interesting Things...
A restaurant was closing its doors and had this sign posted. It was nicely written, some kind words about not blaming the landlord.
The restaurant selling all their stuff.
I noticed the #peopleleavingdrinks and wondered what it meant. Turns out people use that hashtag on Instagram and post pictures of abandoned cups, soda cans, etc. It's pretty funny. I see abandoned drinks all the time. There was one at the train station this morning. I will start documenting! :)
White dog to cream dog: "What did you just call me?"
Stopped in the bookstore McNally Jackson (ok fine, not to buy a book but to cool down). Walking around I noticed that they print books here! Lots of them apparently.
I wish he had walked in front of the wall, but I loved how he was next to the wall with a huge bundle of very colorful wire!
Water sprinklers going at the playground.
Yada yada yada...
Some people have a lot of time on their hands.
Needs a Flat Fix. ;)
Awww...and as a bonus, I got quite the reflection starburst between the two ladies.
Here's a favorite quote of mine from Jason Mraz who talks to the audience for a moment before singing his next song on the album LOVE:
"The opportunity of waking again and again and again cause it feels good. It feels good to remember our greatness. Ya know? It wouldn’t be so bright if there wasn’t a shadow every once in a while..Yeah so anyway, remember, forget, remember, forget, this song is about forgetting and remembering, and I realized it’s so that we can achieve enlightenment, but then, alas! We all still have to do our fucking laundry." ~Jason Mraz :)
Excuse me, do you have any lamps? No?
Stumbled upon the Elizabeth Street Garden which apparently may be destroyed.
Trying to save the garden.
The garden is very eclectic; statues, sculptures, flowers, herbs, etc.
The sign says "Please do not lean back." I didn't dare even sit.
Even the chair was sweating.
This sticker is on top of a low chain "fence". I wonder how many people pondering shoe making will run into this oddly placed sticker.
I really like the word "mending".
Hurricane Sandy remnant.
(just kidding)
This ended fine. :)
Too hot to play.
She stuck her tongue out at me! A first.
Alphabet City!
I'm thinking Con Edison was working overtime today distributing electricity for air conditioners!
His t-shirt says, "Follow Your Dreams - Go Back to Bed".
I really can't make this stuff up.
Almost.
Snuggles is not having a good day.
iPhone selfie of me hanging out in the frozen pizza section of Trader Joe's for a few minutes trying to cool down.
It was so hot and she was in flannel pants
.
She had interesting red hair and large cross earrings so I took a few photos. It wasn't until I processed the photo that I realized it kind of looks like she's part of a question mark with the Capital One sign above her!
Eyes.
Shoe's I could never wear without spraining my ankle. This could start a whole new 52MM series! Welcome to Shoes Megan Could Never Wear Successfully.
I only wear contact lenses when I do photography - I seriously thought they had gotten foggy or something. I blinked my eyes a few times to try and clear them when I approached this sign. Then I realized it was how they wrote the letters. The sign kind of ticked me off.
Only we're in New York...
So that was the shortest day in the city to date. I arrived just before noon and was on the 3:32pm train back to Connecticut. I should have come in the early morning. Later wasn't really an option because there were thunderstorms predicted. And I'm very glad that I did leave early because this happened a couple of hours later...

The Empire State Building got hit by lightening!! Bad enough if you were in the building, but can you image being on the street when that happened?
That's a wrap for July 2016!
Until the next Magic Monday...
