Another warm day in the city, around 90 degrees. To say I'm looking forward to fall is an understatment. Headed north up 3rd Avenue towards Museum Mile which is a stretch of road by Central Park that has many of the city's large museums. I wanted to at least see the outside of the Guggenheim, spend a little time in the Met (ok, fine, because it's air conditioned) and then make my way back through Central Park. I did find the day to be not overly exciting. 3rd Avenue is nice, but kind of "suburban", meaning it was very middle / upper middle class with a ton of retail you would typically see at a mall. Not really my thing. Managed to capture a few fun moments.
Onward.
OMG, so this is kind of cruel. Basically forced to walk on those grates I don't like. Hmph.

This couple was fascinated with the man ironing shirts. They stood there watching for a while. Of course I was fascinated with them being fascinated with ironing. To each his own.
This is a shadow on the floor of an empty retail space. The shadow is from the lettering on the window for a company renting the space. There was a ton of available retail space for rent on 3rd Avenue. More than I usually see in an area.

Tricky lighting situation so I was really happy this one came out. I know I'm a future Purse Dog kind of girl. One day...
I include this only because after about 20 minutes of the tiniest rain drops hitting me here and there, I finally figured out it was air conditioners dripping on me.

Guggenheim Museum...perhaps for another day. It's right across the street from Central Park at 88th.
Entrance to the Cooper Hewitt Museum, part of the Smithsonian and next door to the Guggenheim. As I recall, the Smithsonian Museums are free in Washington DC. Not in NYC.

This is the Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. There's a trail that goes all around it. Not sure how long a walk it would be, this picture makes it look bigger (to me) than it really is. I'm guessing it would probably take 45 minutes to walk around it. I used to live in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area where we had lots of small lakes like this with walking trails. I miss that.

I just loved the "don't trip on this paver" comment. :)
Stopped in the Metropolitan Museum of Art for about an hour. Since you can pay whatever you want to get in, it's nice to just give a few dollars and be able to walk around for a short amount of time.
Next few photos are from art in the Met that struck me as interesting for whatever reason. I took liberties making some images black & white.
This one struck me as a bit funny because obviously I love photography - the word Photo was stenciled on, but as you can see, no photo. The title of the piece is "Photo: The Color of my Dream"
I was in the Modern Art section. They included a toaster, potato masher., spoon and clock as part of the exhibit, amongst other household items. Hmmm....
What I enjoyed about this painting is that if you read the plaque, it said that the painter often worked on the piece upside down! Since I cannot even draw a stick figure, this was beyond impressive to me.

This picture is not turned, this is a sculpture on the wall.
Headed south through Central Park to the Loeb boathouse area where they have radio controlled sailboats for rent.
Murky.
Across from the pond, these girls from Korea were doing a project. They were asking for 100 people to "share their dream" on their board. They had post-it notes, pens, etc. They were singing beautifully and were very friendly.
So far 2 people shared a dream. I was the third but I'm not sharing what I wrote (unless it comes true...you'll be the first to know).
Favorite shirt of the day! I love picturing this hanging in her closet.
Makes me want to ride a bike sometime through Central Park. I suppose that would be a great way for me to cover a lot of ground. I do take Spin class a couple of times a week, I should put all that gym work to good use.

Maybe a favorite of the day. I like how his clothes are wrinkled/shadowed in a way to match the wood. He almost blends right in.

If you would like to get a drawing done of yourself, this was the place to do it. There were probably 10 different stands setup with people wanting to draw your portrait.
And what do we have here?
Seemed to be an entire window panel they were getting ready to install on this building. Yet it was not new construction? Didn't look like the type of thing that would need to be replaced but who knows

Couldn't see where it might go. But if you look at the very top edge of the photo, the building across the street looks like it's missing a window!
Things just got weird.
I walked past this woman as she was unlocking her bike. I thought to myself, geesh, is she going to ride a bike in that dress? She looked really nice, but it was a very slim cut dress.
Off she went! I wonder if she stands the entire time...
I'm including this picture because it's a scene that could not be photographed a few months ago. They took down a skyscraper right next to Grand Central. So this side of Grand Central hasn't seen sunlight in years! You can see there are some backhoes just beyond the green plywood wall, they were continuing to dig out. I suppose another skyscraper will go up. I thought it was interesting to note that this is a short window of opportunity to fully photograph the west side of Grand Central!
She kind of sums up my day. A little tiring and a tad dull. But not every Magic Monday can be amazing!
This is how I end each Magic Monday, heading for the train.
I'm excited for next week's Magic Monday. I hear the new mall at the World Trade Center opened this week. I'm not a mall girl at all, and I'm not sure how I feel about a mall at the 9/11 area, but the architecture for the structure looked amazing on TV. Stay tuned!
