Week 49

PC120217

December 12, 2016
Tree-Ma-Geddon!
All around Manhattan

Train In/Out: Fairfield, CT
Miles walked: 7
Camera: Olympus OM-D E-M1 with m.Zuiko 12-40mm PRO

Christmas in New York...I knew it was coming, LOL. I figured my "when in Rome" theme should continue so I visited the obligatory Rockefeller Center tree this week. But I thought to myself, this can't be the only tree in New York?! So I researched a bit and found a few other trees that might be fun to visit. None were as grand as Rockefeller, but I would say the tree in Washington Square Park was a close second as far as style goes. Obviously the trees look better when it's dark, so I got into New York around 3:15pm and made my way around the city capturing as many Christmas trees as I could find.

Onward.

PC120004

I promise, they get better. ;)

PC120005

Grabbed a pic of this table because they were projecting images on the ceiling.

PC120008

A-for-effort getting on the 52MM Tree-Ma-Geddon page!

PC120015

The tree in the 5th Avenue Library.  I would have to look back at my January 2016 photos, but I think when I took a tour of the library the tree was up from last year. I know there were some holiday decorations anyway. Kind of weird that it's come full circle and it's that time of year again.

While at the library, I asked if the Rose Reading Room had reopened. It was closed for construction but I remember seeing pictures of it on the construction sign and it looked pretty amazing. So I went upstairs to take a quick peek. Quite the ceiling. I might go back and try to get some better shots another time, this was just a quick handheld shot.

Please ignore the garbage cans. This is a seasonal event room at Bryant Park. It was closed and they were setting up for a party. I popped in to ask if I could take a picture and they were nice enough to say yes.

PC120040

Bryant Park Tree.

PC120044

Facebook sponsored this Virtual Reality thing at Bryant Park. People were wearing Goggles looking at who knows what. Maybe I'll check it out next week...I think my biggest concern is they will show me something and make me car sick!

PC120049

OK, so there's a Whole Foods next to Bryant Park? Is this new? I don't know how I never noticed it before.

PC120051

Office building lobby at 1 Bryant Place.

I'm running out of time to add a few more Interesting Things people! Since the frame is almost as tall as the girl, she made it. Welcome.

PC120060

No one around. Darn.

PC120064

Saks Fifth Avenue.

PC120075

Rockefeller Center, the tree ahead.

PC120084

The tree. Wasn't dark yet but close enough.

 PC120085

Reflection selfie.

PC120086

I like this perspective better.

PC120089

Flags at the skating rink.

PC120098

A different kind of Christmas angel.

PC120110

I just thought the beading on her coat was impressive.

PC120112

PC120114

Up by Trump Tower, they now have 56th street closed to all traffic in this area. It will stay like this indefinitely now that Donald Trump will be president. What a drag for businesses in this area.

PC120115

Looking across 5th Avenue to the other side of 56th street.

PC120119

Still a small media circus around Trump Tower.

PC120121

See, told you it was a circus!  :)

PC120127

A decent sized protest with lots of chanting going on.

PC120128

PC120129

PC120133

I liked this image a lot.

PC120135

Looking down 5th Avenue toward Trump Tower and the protesters. They have a decent amount of 5th Ave. closed off to traffic around this block as well.

PC120140

They are right up there as some of my favorite people I've come across on 52 Magic Mondays. There were 4 little dogs in that stroller. Super low light so it's not the best shot, but good enough!

PC120142

Tree in the Plaza Hotel lobby.

PC120147

The Plaza restaurant area, took a quick peek in there.

PC120149

Awww...me, too!

PC120151

A sweet moment captured in the Todd English food court in the basement of the Plaza.

PC120156

Up by Columbus Circle, another one of those popup shopping areas they have all over the city at this time of year.

PC120158

Time Warner building.

PC120162

Lincoln Center tree. #disappointing!  Sorry, it was pretty lame.

PC120168

PC120173

This subway was full of all sorts of information about proper conduct on the subway. No pole dancing, don't clip your nails or eat a huge meal. It was pretty funny. I got a great photo of a boy doing a pole dance on July 4, Week 26. I remember the date so well because it was the half way point for 52 Magic Mondays. And now we are almost done...(sigh).

PC120174

So THAT'S where he is! Good to know. Maybe I'll visit Belgium in 2017 and post a few God photos for you all.

PC120177

I've subway'd down to the Greenwich Village area now...a little different kind of Christmas display here.

PC120185

PC120190

The tree at Washington Square Park. Looks great under the arch. I needed everyone to go home but they kept hanging around, LOL. Best I could do since I didn't want to be in the city until midnight.

PC120198

PC120217

Made my way up to Madison Square Park and came across this curious lighted hammock installation. Pretty cool! I was on a tripod to get this shot, only one that came out ok. If people moved then I would end up with "ghost people" in the image because my exposure was several seconds.

PC120221

Ah, the Box. Some nice memories here during 52 Magic Mondays. Enjoyed a glass of wine here a couple of times, a nice conversation with a special friend, and I met Agador the dog here!

PC120228

The tree at Madison Square Park. Totally missing some branches on the lower left. But I like the almost eery feel to this shot.

PC120003

That ends my Tree-Ma-Geddon edition of 52 Magic Mondays. I went from Grand Central to Bryant Park, Rockefeller, Trump Tower, The Plaza, Columbus Circle, Lincoln Center, Washington Square Park, Union Square (no photo - no tree!), and Madison Square Park. You could say I've gotten pretty good at navigating the city. I think I took an 8:07pm train, so not a bad day's work in just under 5 hours.

Until the next Magic (Birthday) Monday!

xo,

~MC
