Here is a gallery of my favorite images from a photography workshop with Olympus Visionaries Jamie MacDonald & Mike Beoning in Philidelphia on July 15, 16, 17, 2016.
Explored the Eastern States Penitentiary, downtown, the Navy Yard and a skate park.
Enjoy! xo ~mc

September 29 & 30th, 2018
2 Day Street Photography Workshop in New York City!
Hosts: Megan Crandlemire & Mike Boening
When: 7am Saturday, September 29 - 2pm Sunday, September 30
Where: Manhattan & Brooklyn, New York City
Number of Particpants: 4 (an exceptional & intimate workshop opportunity!)
Fee: $695/person
Megan Crandlemire, 52 Magic Monday’s creator, and Mike Boening, Olympus Visionary are excited to announce their 2 day Street Photography Workshop in New York City.
We chose to keep this workshop very unique and personal by opening it up to only 4 participants. You will receive plenty of one-on-one instruction and support from Megan and Mike. We will be able to navigate and move around the city much more effectively as a small group which will, in turn, let you capture more of what makes New York City a spectacular street shooting environment!
The home base area of the workshop will be the Flat Iron District / Madison Square Park.
You can expect to walk 10-12 miles over the two day period, moving at a steady pace. Being a small and nimble group will help us achieve this pace to capture more of the city.
You will leave the workshop with:
- hundreds of amazing photographs
- your own, personal “new view” of the streets of New York
- a refreshed & confident approach to street and architecture/city photography, day and night
- inspiration as you explore what street photography means to you and discover what really lights you up
- the camaraderie of new friends in photography and life
As always, workshops provide so much more than just how to capture images. They provide you time to devote solely to your passion. When this is accomplished you realize the potential of your creativity! Our supportive group environment will further magnify your originality.
Another special feature of the workshop is our two online gatherings taking place before and after the workshop! See details below.
Pre Workshop Online Meet & Greet:
Saturday, Sept. 29, Itinerary:
Sunday, Sept. 30, Itinerary:
Post Workshop Online Review:
This online event is one of the most important pieces of the workshop, as it will give you the chance to show us what you saw compared to others. We are always amazed at the different ways we see things even though we are all looking at the same area. We will kick back in this session and really discuss your selected 7 images with everyone on the video call. It’s a no judgment zone and you will find this to be the best way to keep that workshop magic going after we have left New York. Session will be recorded.
What's Included:
- Pre Workshop Online Meet & Greet
- Two days of fabulous shooting and exploring in New York City!
- Post Workshop Online Group Discussion & Review
What's Not Included:
Hotel, meals, subway and transportation fees are not included in the workshop fee. Mike & Megan will provide suggestions for hotels, but you are free to stay anywhere in NYC. We will be starting at 7am both days near the Flat Iron / Madison Square Park so please book your accommodations accordingly. We suggest you stay over Friday night before the workshop begins.
If you have diet restrictions, please plan accordingly. We will have suggestions however choice of restaurants during the workshop is up to you.
How to Sign Up!
There are only 4 slots available. Please see our FAQ below for questions about payment, what to bring, etc. Please email Megan at megancrandlemire@gmail.com with any questions.
In order to run this workshop, we need 4 people signed up and fully paid by September 1, 2018. We reserve the right to cancel the workshop because of an inadequate number of participants. In the event that the workshop is canceled, you will receive a full refund of the cost of the workshop.
We can't wait to see you September 29 & 30th in New York!!

What if it rains?
We have a number of ideas if it's absolutely pouring rain during the weekend. Some ideas include visiting Grand Central, the Chrysler Building, 5th Avenue Library, Oculus, Strand Bookstore and Chelsea Market. During Megan's 52 Magic Mondays, she had her share of rainy days and was always able to have a great day. No worries, we have plenty of rainy day ideas!
Payment, cancellation, and refunds
If you are unable or you choose to no longer attend the photo workshop, the following refund schedule will apply:
120 or more days prior to the beginning of the workshop: 100% refund less a $95 administrative fee.
Less than 120 days prior to the workshop: no refund unless you find someone to take your spot. The administration fee of $95 applies to all cancelations or transfer of registration.
Cancelation notification is accepted by email.
Leaving a workshop in progress, for any reason, will not result in a refund.
We reserve the right to cancel a workshop because of an inadequate number of participants making the workshop economically infeasible to operate. In the event that a workshop is canceled prior to departure, you will receive a full refund of the cost of the workshop.
Can someone else attend in my place?
Please let us know if you are unable to attend as soon as possible. If you send someone in your place, we will need to confirm that the person understands there will be 10-12 miles of walking.
What happens if I have an emergency during the workshop?
We are not liable should you experience an injury and the workshop will continue should you need to leave for medical reason. Of course we will assist you in getting the help you need. Please bring necessary identification and medical insurance cards with you.
What if I need to leave early?

About Mike Boening
Mike’s passion for street photography can be traced back to his interest in becoming a photo journalist while in college. As life would have it, career aspirations moved in other directions, but the love of observing the streets and how people interact is still central to Mike’s photography.
Over the years, Mike has worked with the Detroit Metro Convention Bureau covering events and shot billboards for the Pure Michigan Campaign. He writes for many gear blogs and has been featured on the podcasts Street Focus from T.W.I.P. and Out Of Chicago. He shares his love of street photography by instructing and leading groups on urban photography in the Detroit area and major cities like Philadelphia, Atlanta, San Francisco, Chicago and Toronto.
When Mike isn’t behind a camera, he’s in front of the camera serving as cohost of the biweekly video podcast, “Mirrorless Minutes” along with fellow Visionary, Jamie MacDonald.
Mike is passionate about what can be accomplished with the Olympus Micro Four Thirds systems and considers the Olympus PEN-F the finest camera made for today’s street photographers.

And so we meet...
Welcome! I'm Megan Crandlemire and amongst other things, I'm a photographer, writer, and speaker. A few years ago, I ventured out on a year-long photography project called 52 Magic Mondays that changed the direction of my life. I'm currently working on a book about that project. I sometimes post city and street photography images in my 52 Magic Metros (not been so great about keeping that up to date). I share my interactions with the Universe in 52 Magic Musings.

Past New York City Photography Workshops
(thanks, pandemic, for putting a monkey wrench in that endeavor!)
I like to play in my home studio with macro photography. Macro is done with a special lens that can focus on a subject at a close distance. I use my m.Zuiko 60mm macro lens from Olympus.
These are some of my favorites. If you see anything you like and would like to order a print, phone case, pillow, etc, visit my new SHOP page!
Visit my shop on Fine Art America to purchase, framed prints, unframed prints, greeting cards, tote bags and more.
Honored to receive Best Photojournalism for my image, “Her Fifth Avenue”! TOPS in Connecticut is a bi-annual competition run by the Connecticut Association of Photographers. Of the 734 images entered, 101 were accepted into the show including 13 award winning images. I had 4 images accepted which was also quite the honor!
My image was from Week 4 of 52 Magic Mondays. A very special image as it was one of a handful of pivotal moments I had on the streets of NYC that year.
